How to Read a Detailed Stock Quote Table
A detailed stock quote table provides one with much more information than just the current market price of the stock. Being able to understand a stock quote table is essential when investing in the market.
You may obtain detailed stock quotes from any of the major financial sites such as Yahoo Finance or CBS Marketwatch. Here is an example of a detailed stock quote table for Microsoft from Yahoo Finance.
The following explains the major components of a typical detailed stock quote table.
Ticker Symbol (종목기호, 보통 3~4개의 알파벳으로 구성됩니다. 마이크로소프트의 심볼은 MSFT입니다. 모를 경우 야후 등에서 쉽게 찾을 수 있답니다.): This is the unique 3 or 4 letter name which identifies the stock for purposes of trading on a particular exchange. For example, the ticker symbol for Microsoft is MSFT.
If you wish to obtain a stock quote online, you search for a company by its ticker symbol. If you don't know what a particular company's ticker symbol is, you can search for it by company name at most major financial sites such as Yahoo Finance.
Last Trade (최신가격입니다. 26.96$ 입니다.): The most recent price at which the security was traded. All quotes are updated continuously throughout the day as further trades are made.
Trade Time (거래일자, 2004년 12월 17일날 거래된 그림입니다.): The time of the most recent trade of a particular stock.
Change(등락, 한국과 달리 주가가 하락하면 빨간색으로 표시됩니다. $와 %가 동시에 표기): The difference between the previous day's closing price and the most recent price of the stock.
Prev Close (전일 종가): The last trading price for the stock recorded when the market closed on the previous day.
Open(시초가격): The price of the stock's first trade of the day. This is the price of the stock as of the market open. Trading opens at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time.
Close (종가): The close is the last trading price recorded when the market closed on the day.
Bid (사자가격, 사자주문 중 가장 높은 가격으로 낸 체결직전의 사자주문, $26에 1천주 주문이 있군요): The price at which a market maker or stock exchange trader is prepared to buy a particular security from an investor.
Ask (팔자가격, 팔자주문 중 가장 낮은 가격으로 낸 체결직전의 팔자주문으로 $28.98짜리 500주 주문이 있습니다.): The price at which a market maker or stock exchange trader offers to sell a given security to an investor.
Day's Range (일중 등락, Trade Time 기간중 가장 높았던 가격과 가장 낮았던 가격으로, 최고 $27.32까지 갔었고 최저 $26.7951까지 갔었군요): This refers to the price range at which the stock has traded at throughout the day. It represents the maximum and the minimum prices that investors have paid for the stock during a particular market day.
52wk Range (52주간 등가격 등락, 약 1년간의 등락이라고 생각하면 됩니다. 최근 1년간 최고로 $30.20과 최저 $24.01 사이에서 거래되었다는 뜻입니다.):This refers to the price range at which the stock has traded at during the past 52 weeks. It represents the maximum and the minimum prices that investors have paid for the stock during the preceding one year period.
Volume(거래량): How many shares of a particular company traded that day.
Avg Vol (3m) (최근 3개월간 하루 평균거래량으로, 평균 7천4백만주가 거래되었군요)
Change (등락, 오늘은 20센트 떨어졌네요. 퍼센트로는 0.74%) : The difference between the previous day's closing price and the most recent price of the stock.
Market Cap (상장 주식수로 마이크로소프트의 상장주식수는 2,931억주 이군요): The value of a company as determined by multiplying the total amount of its outstanding shares by the current market price per share.
P/E (주당순이익, 회사수익을 주식수로 나눈 값입니다. 현재 가격과 비교해서 상승가능성을 점치기도 합니다.): This is the company's Price/Earnings Ratio, calculated by dividing the current stock price by earnings per share from the last four quarters.
Dividend Per Share (배당수익률): This indicates the annual dividend payment per share for a company that currently pays out dividends.
After Hours (RT-ECN) (거래시간이 종료된 후 야간시장에서 거래된 가격으로 종가보다 $0.03가 상승했습니다. 야간시장의 등락이 큰 경우에는 그 가격의 방향이 다음날 정규시장의 가격에 영향을 미치기도 합니다.)
